The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States on five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted individuals that were at the heart of efforts to introduce laws governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
